History of Showers Field
Back in the 1940s, Kenneth “Gamey” Showers, leased the plot on which Showers Field sits from the City of DuBois. With the help of friends, the group converted, which was once a swamp land, and built the original Showers’ Field in the late 1940s. Major league scouts would come to DuBois for baseball tournaments at Showers’ Field looking for new talent. As a result, several ball players went on to play in the major leagues, including Albert Walter “Sparky” Lyle of Reynoldsville. Other local baseball players drafted from DuBois have been Jim Pittsley and Garret Peterson. In the last few years, Showers Field has gone through a series of projects and expansions to complete the major renovation transforming it from just a great baseball field into a first-class baseball facility, with some even commenting it replicates a minor league ballpark.
