The George Montgomery Post # 17, DuBois American Legion in cooperation
and partnering with The City of DuBois proudly announces that the 2019
Pennsylvania American Legion State Baseball Tournament will be coming to
Showers Field. The dates of the PA State Legion Tournament will be
July 26-July 31.
We would like to express our gratitude to those who have worked hard to
bring this prestigious American Legion Tournament to The City of DuBois
and the George Montgomery, American Legion Post # 17.
This will be a great show case for Post # 17 and the City of DuBois. Showers Field
has played host to other major baseball events including PIAA Play-offs and The
Small College World Series. This is a tremendous accomplishment to bring this illustrious
American Legion Tournament to our area.
Bob Schleiden, PA American Legion Activities Committee Vice Chairman of the West was very
instrumental to put DuBois and Post # 17 up for hosting the tournament.
Denny Knarr, Post #17 Commander along with Post members Billie Jo Powers, Richard
Coccimiglio, John Fritz and Head Coach of Post # 17 Chuck Ferra were the instrumental in
making the idea become a reality.
City Manager Herm Suplizo and staff welcomed and embraced the Tournament offering The
City of DuBois’ whole-hearted support of the Pennsylvania American Legion State Baseball
Tournament being played on the newly revamped and turf Showers Field.
Thank you and as the weeks and months come, more information will be released.
Finally, thank you Jonathan Wiess, PAL Activity Director for the signed contract making
the George Montgomery Post # 17 the City of DuBois the Host as we celebrate 100 years of The
American Legion.
FOR GOD & COUNTRY
Barry Abbott
Chairman, PAL American Legion Baseball Tournament, Post # 17
